Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Thursday, laid foundation of the proposed 120MW Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project at Longku in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present during the foundation laying ceremony.
The Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project in in Assam’s Dima Hasao district will be constructed at an estimated cost 231 million US dollars (Rs 2200 crores) ADB loan.
This run-of-the-river project over the Kopili river is expected to increase electricity supply by 469 gigawatt-hours (GWh) by 2025.

“Centre will bear 77% (Rs 1700 crore) of the cost of the project and rest 23% (Rs 500 crore) will be borne by Assam government,” Nirmala Sitharaman said.
The union finance minister also announced a 3-km four-lane bridge over the river Brahmaputra, which will connect Guwahati with Sualkuchi.
This eight bridge over river Brahmaputra in Assam will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 3094 crore.
“Construction of a three-km four-lane bridge over river Brahmaputra in Kamrup district has been approved by the Centre,” Nirmala Sitharam said.
