The Adani Group will take over management of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport at Guwahati in Assam tonight.
Come Thursday midnight, the Adani Guwahati International Airport Limited (AGIAL) will take over management of the LGBI Airport.
Director of LGBI Airport – Ramesh Kumar will hand over management of the airport to AGIAL’s chief airport officer – Utpal Baruah.
Utpal Baruah was recently appointed as the chief airport officer of the Adani Guwahati International Airport Limited.
The displaced Airports Authority of India (AAI) employees at the LGBI Airport in Guwahati are most likely to be posted at other airports.
According to reports, only security and air traffic communication will be looked after by AAI employees at the LGBI airport in Guwahati.
Opposition parties in Assam including the Congress and the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and several other organizations in the state have been opposing privatization of the LGBI Airport.
Notably, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently had assured that there are no plans of renaming the LGBI airport in Guwahati.
“Name of Guwahati airport will always remain Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had said.
There are speculations and apprehensions that the name of the LGBI airport in Guwahati would be renamed.
Many fear that the name of the airport in Guwahati would be changed from Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to Adani Guwahati Airport.
