Two more patients died of COVID19 infections in Assam on Wednesday, taking the state’s overall death toll to 66.

Sharing the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Wednesday said the deceased have been identified as 54-year-old Alok Ghosh from Jorhat district and 47-year-old Haren Boron from Kamrup Metro district.

“Two more patients Alok Ghosh (54, Jorhat) and Haren Boron (47, Kamrup Metro), lost the battle against COVID19 today taking total death count in Assam to 66,” health minister Sarma tweeted.

“My thoughts and prayers are with their families,” Sarma added.

Meanwhile, Assam has registered 972 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 27,744.

Health minister Sarma in another tweet said out of the new positive cases, 354 cases have been reported from Kamrup Metro district while 51 cases have been reported from the Jorhat district.

“Alert ~ 972 new #COVID19 patients in Assam today. Out of these, 354 cases were recorded from Kamrup (M) & 51 from Jorhat,” health minister Sarma tweeted, adding, “Stay alert, safe & healthy!”

With these new cases, Assam currently has 8,325 active COVID19 cases.

A total of 19,350 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have been discharged from various hospitals across Assam after they tested negative for the virus.
