Sensation prevails in Majuli island as the news of two incidents of rape of minors spread on Saturday.
The incidents of rape of the minor girls have taken place in Majuli within 48 hours.
As per information, a 10-year-old-girl was raped at Natun Bazar in Upper Majuli while a 13-year-old girl was raped at Lower Serepai in Jengraimukh of Majuli district.
The perpetrator, involved in the rape incident of Natun Bazar, who has been identified as Jiten Kumbang of Ratanpur Miri Gaon, has been arrested by Jengraimukh Police.
On the other hand, the police have beefed up operation in search of the accused involved in the Lower Serepai rape case, Firoj Pegu, who has fled the scene after the incident.
Two separate cases have been registered at Jengraimukh Police Station against the culprits and the police have launched a probe into it.
In spite of raising voice spontaneously against incidents of rape and murder of women and girl children across the country, two incidents of sexual assaults have also been reported at Margherita in Tinsukia district within one week.
According to information, a 55-year-old man has been arrested by Margherita Police on Friday night for being allegedly involved in sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in Margherita. The accused has been identified as Innul Haque. He is a resident of Lajum village in Margherita.
“This is the second incident of sexual assault occurred in Margherita within a week,” said sources.
The Officer-in-Charge of Margherita Police Station, Girin Sonowal, said, “The accused, identified as Innul Haque (55) of Lajum village, allegedly raped a 7-year-old girl last evening at his own residence after luring her,” adding, “The ghastly act of the accused was confirmed after it was medically ascertained by a local female doctor.”
