“The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth” is a new docuseries on Netflix that explores the disappearance and murder of Sheena Bora, the daughter of Indrani Mukerjea, a former media executive.

The series, which is set to be released on February 23, 2024, promises to delve into the complex relationships, financial motives, and dark secrets that led to this shocking crime.

The story has captivated India since 2015, when Sheena Bora’s body was found dumped in a Raigad forest. The investigation revealed a web of lies, deceit, and ultimately, murder. Indrani Mukerjea, along with her then-husband Peter Mukerjea and her former driver Shyam Rai, were arrested and charged with the crime.

Directed by Uraaz Bahl and Shaana Levy, this four-episode docuseries is said to examine the complexities of the highly-debated Sheena Bora case.

Indrani Mukerjea, in 2015 was arrested for allegedly murdering Sheena Bora, who was earlier reported as Indrani’s sister.

Sheena Bora

In a shocking turn of events, it was found out that Sheena Bora was Indrani’s daughter from her first marriage.

The docuseries promises to offer new insights into the case, with interviews from accused Indrani Mukerjea herself and her daughter Vidhie, and other family members, journalists, and lawyers involved in the case.

It will also feature unseen footage and never-before-heard audio recordings along with family pictures and disturbing phone call recordings between Indrani, Peter, and Rahul Mukerjea. These give us a better understanding of why Sheena, a young girl, disappeared mysteriously, and make us question each person’s version of the truth.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the case, filed charges against Indrani under the Indian Penal Code Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 34 (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating and forgery), 364 (kidnapping) 120-B (conspiracy).

Indrani, who is currently out on bail, got bail in May 2022 after being at the Byculla Jail for seven years.
