The Telegana Police becomes the saviour of a 16-year-old Assam teenager with their unique facial recognition tool.

The facial recognition tool called Darpan reunited the 16-year-old teenager with her family, after she went missing from her home Lakhimpur in Assam. She was traced at a child home in Sonitpur recently.

She had gone to Delhi in search of work but in September she returned to Assam but not to her native place.

“She was scared to go to her home and so, started working near Sonitpur, where Railway police rescued her and handed over to CWC, who admitted her to a child home in Tezpur,” said IG, (Law and Order) Swati Lakra.

Her reuniting with her family was only possible through the unique feature of the recognition tool which matches multiple images from the various database across the country.

The application links the child in a shelter home with the missing report across the country resulting in detection of the missing children. “We are also in the process of getting the database of all missing children across the country with an aim to trace them,” Lakra said, reports The Hindu.

The database of all the persons missing and those lodged at various child and rescue homes available at various websites have been downloaded and stored in the database of DARPAN to help identify and reunite them with their families, she said.
