A sudden heavy downpour and strong wind has wreaked havoc in Diphu town.

The storm has disrupted power, blocked roads, uprooted trees and broken branches fell on power cables and snapped them.

It has also blown away a part of the roof of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Secretariat just five days after its inauguration. The GI sheets at the top of the building were torn away and thrown to the ground.

The storm which lasted 40 minutes has also blown away tin roofing sheets and flooded many homes.

Some of the severely affected areas in Diphu are Achom Kimi, Rongmonjir and Checharlangso.

Agriculture Colony, one Sarat Deka’s residence was damaged when a tree fell on his house. Deka informed that no was injured as he was not at home and his mother was in the kitchen when the tree fell.

In the premises of Diphu Civil Hospital a big tree fell and smashed three parked cars. There were no injuries as the car was empty.

The power cables in front DC’s residence were also snapped by falling tree branches. Many roads are blocked and there is no power in Diphu town.
