A Delhi High Court on Tuesday passed a stay order over HPC Liquidator’s instructions asking the paper mill staff to vacate their quarters by January 31, 2020.
The court of Justice Nazim Waziri issued the order following a writ petition filed by Cachar Paper Project Workers’ Union.

The Liquidator of HPC on December 23 asked the paper mill staff to vacate the quarter by January.
The Writ Petition was Cacahar Paper Project Worker Union (INTUC) VS Union of India & Another.
“Court has also directed Central Provident Fund Commissioner, Delhi to reply as to why PF has not been released,” said Manobendra Chakraborty, president of Nagaon & Cachar Paper Mill union.

“The honourable court has taken serious note that due to nonpayment of salary and statutory dues to 60 workers who died,” Chakraborty added.
“By today’s Order interim relief has been extended to the workers and employees,” he further said.
“We want to mention here that while the Centre and the state government are imposing inhuman tortures to the employees, the Delhi High Court came forward for rescue,” he added.
“We have full faith on judiciary and confidence that justice would be delivered,” he added.
Former MP and senior Congress leader Susmita Dev welcomed the direction of the Delhi High Court.
“The Centre is trying to shut down the paper mills forever. But we have faith on the judiciary,” Dev added.
She said that she to the anti-people policies of the central government, all the public sector units are in a dire stage in India.
The Cachar and Nagaon Paper Mills remain non-functional for last several years.
The employees have also not got their salary for the last two years.
