The stage is ready as Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) national President Amit Shah is going to address a huge Booth Sabhapati Sanmelan (Booth Presidents’ Conference) of the party at the College of Veterinary Science playground at Khanapara in Guwahati on Saturday.

The Sanmelan is being held as a part of the BJP’s preparation for the ensuing Panchayat polls to be held in Assam.

While Amit Shah is scheduled to attend the Sanmelan at 11 am as the Special Guest it will be attended by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance, Education and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend as Chief Guests.

The Sanmelan, to be attended by all the BJP MPs and MLAs of the BJP, will be participated by 25,849 booth presidents, 303 mandal presidents and 38 district presidents.

Ahead of the Panchayat polls, the conference is being held with an aim to make panchayat bodies ‘Congress-mukt’.

BJP national President Shah will also have interactions with the party Ministers and MLAs of the State at 3 pm and at 5 pm he will also have a meeting with the BJP leaders of the Core Committee at the PWD Guest House in the city at 5 pm.

The BJP President will also have another meeting with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh office-bearers.

It may be mentioned that buoyed by its successful strategy in Tripura election, BJP is going to follow ‘Tripura model’ in the coming panchayat polls in Assam.

The party has already appointed ‘Prishtha Pramukhs’ to win the upcoming panchayat polls in the State.

A prishtha pramukh is the in-charge of a page of electoral rolls. He responsibility is to liaison with the all the voters whose names figure in that page.

“On March 24, altogether 3,33,000 prishtha pramukhs will be formally handed over the responsibility of taking care of 60 voters each. Our national president Amit Shah will inaugurate the programme,” State BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia told Northeast Now recently.

The Panchayat polls are a crucial factor ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year.
