Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with several other BJP leaders and ministers took out a peace rally in Nalbari on Friday, amid widespread anti-CAA protests.
The rally began from Nalbari Government Gurdon Higher Secondary School playground and covered a distance of 4 kilometres.
Apart from Sonowal, state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Pramila Rani Brahma and several senior BJP leaders took part in the rally.
Addressing the rally Sonowal urged the people to maintain peace in the state.
“Assam is a peaceful state and we should always maintain peace in the state. I request the people to not get instigated and they should maintain peace,” the CM said.
Later in a tweet, he said, “Joined thousands of people in a silent padayatra along with colleagues, MPs and @BJP4Assam karyakartas at Nalbari.”
“The ‘Akya Samadal’ is a call for peace and harmony, a call that the people of Assam wants to continue on the path of development and progress,” the tweet added.
