With an aim to study genuineness of the SC and ST tags given to the different communities, the Assam government decided to initiate exhaustive research work.
This was initiated to study the causative issues and find out a mutually all-agreeable solution.
The decision was taken on Friday in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
It was also decided to elicit responses and suggestions from all walks of life and stakeholders to decide on the modalities of the research study.
CM Sonowal pointed out that there will be a social media platform wherein the public, in general, can put in their suggestions to carry out the research work.
He instructed Welfare of Plain Tribes (WPT) and Backward Classes (BC) department to develop a social media platform for the purpose.
The verification committee will assess the veracity to decide a roadmap for the purpose.
Sonowal, while taking stock of different schemes meant to the welfare of SCs, STs and OBCs, asked WPT & BC commissioner and secretary M Angamuthu to expeditiously implement the schemes.
He also asked the department to generate awareness among the people to elicit more response from the people across the state.
He also asked the department to expeditiously disburse funds for pre-matric and post-matric scholarships and scholarships for higher education among the students.
He also asked the functionaries to construct girls’ hostels across the state for the students of SC, ST and OBC and name them after the legendary leaders of the communities.
Chief Minister Sonowal also took stock of the construction of Model Ekalavya Schools.
