Team Tech Aces from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Madhya Pradesh emerged as the winner of the software edition of Smart India Hackathon 2018 held at the nodal centre, Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management & Technology, Guwahati (GIMT-G) on Saturday.

The valedictory ceremony of the software edition of Smart India Hackathon 2018 held at the Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management & Technology nodal centre at 8 pm on Saturday after the 36-hour non-stop coding competition.

Team Ciphers from Oriental Institute of Science and Technology, Madhya Pradesh and Team UVPCE01 from U.V. Patel College of Engineering, Gujarat as first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

Smart India Hackathon is a digital product development competition which has challenged the students to think creatively and offer innovative ideas for solving major real-time problems in India.

In the nodal centre of GIMT, 40 teams comprising 320 students coded to solve 10 problem statements identified by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

The winning team’s young innovators, responding to the challenges faced by the Forest Department, came up with brilliant solution for creating Forest Right Awareness Programme through animated cartoon videos.

On the other hand, the first runner-up team made an easy-to-use mobile app that enables tribal people to promote their tourism, home stays and business ventures.

The problem statement of the second runner-up was ‘Know your Right’.

The winners were awarded with cash prizes Rs 1 lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. They will also get a chance to be a part of NASSCOM’s 10,000 Startups programme.

Apart from these, three special prizes were also announced by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, namely, KPIT Award (Team Tornadoes, Puducherry), Deloitte Award (The Fine Fettles, Rajasthan) and Persistent Award (Team Educational Guider, Tamil Nadu).

The valedictory ceremony was attended as the Chief Guest by Assam Power, Labour & Employment, Tea Tribes Welfare, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Pallab Lochan Das along with Guests of Honour Rajiv Kumar Bora, Additional Chief Secretary, Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes Department, Rajesh Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Dr Ajeet Singh, Assistant Director, AICTE.
