Mukerjea, a co-founder of INX media, who was arrested in 2015, has currently been lodged in Byculla women’s jail.

The report quoted SD Nanandkar, JJ Hospital dean as saying that she was brought to the state-run hospital at 11.30 pm with a ‘history of chest pain and discomfort’.

Nanandkar also told reporters that Mukerjea underwent a series of medical tests after she was admitted to the critical care unit (CCU) of the hospital.

“Accordingly, a clinical evaluation was done. ECG (electrocardiogram) showed mild changes (in heart rhythm), while her chest X-ray report was normal.

“Her MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) test report of the neck was awaited. Her condition is not serious. Some tests related to cardiology are pending,” Nanandkar told reporters.

JJ Hospital dean also informed that Mukerjea would be released in two to three days and till then, she would be kept in the CCU for treatment.

Mukerjea has been admitted to the hospital for the second time in two months. She was last admitted to the hospital in a ‘semi-conscious’ condition in April last.

After a series of medical tests, the hospital authorities had then said she had an overdose of anti-depressants which were not prescribed to her by doctors.

A few months after her arrest in October, 2015 in her daughter Sheena Bora’s murder case, Mukerjea was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state. It was then suspected that the former media executive had drug overdose.

According to police, 24-year-old Bora was killed and her body disposed of in a forest area in the neighbouring Raigad district in April 2012.

Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai were arrested for the crime which came to light in August 2015. Rai later turned an approver (prosecution witness) in the case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the case, also arrested Mukerjea’s husband former media baron Peter Mukerjea for allegedly being part of the murder conspiracy.
