Former JNU student Sharjeel Imam, who was arrested in Bihar on January 28 for his ‘cut-off Northeast” remark during an anti-CAA protest in New Delhi, reached Guwahati on Thursday evening.
He was handed over to an Assam police team earlier on Wednesday by the Patiala House Court.
As soon as Imam and the Assam police team reached Guwahati, the former JNU student was taken to MMCH for a health check-up.
From MMCH was produced before the CJM Kamrup.
The court later sent Imam to four-day police custody.
Reportedly, Sharjeel Imam on February 13 was presented before the CJM Kamrup through video conferencing.
Imam’s remark during an anti-CAA rally in Shaheen Bagh in New Delhi sparked a major controversy and multiple FIRs were registered against him.
Sedition charges were also slapped on Sharjeel for his remarks.
Police in Manipur, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh had also lodged FIRs against the JNU scholar.
