The Assam Congress on Tuesday demanded the BJP to ask for apology from the people of the State for failing to fulfil its promises made during the last Assembly elections.

“The BJP should seek apology from the people of Assam for failing to fulfil the promises it made during the last Assembly elections in the State,” said Assam Congress leader Gaurav Vallabh.

“They (BJP) should have attached an apology letter with the manifesto they released today,” added Gaurav Vallabh.

Briefing the media about the Congress’ 5 ‘guarantees’, Congress leader and Maharashtra Minister Ashok Chavan said: “The Congress has given guarantees, not jumlas.”

The Congress leaders while briefing the media said that the Congress is committed to fulfil the guarantees it has given.

“Within 6 hours of Congress-led Grand Alliance forming Government, the new Chief Minister would sign a document, which will raise the minimum daily wage of tea garden workers up to Rs 365,” said Assam Congress leader Gaurav Vallabh.

“The other four guarantees that the Congress has given would be approved in the first cabinet meeting of the new Congress-led government in Assam,” added Gaurav Vallabh.

The Assam Congress has further said that it will revive the two defunct paper mills in the State – the Hindustan Paper Corporation-run Cachar Paper Mill and the Nagaon Paper Mill.

“We will make sure that the defunct paper mills in Assam are revived and new employment opportunities are created,” informed Assam Congress.
