The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to cover the by-lanes of the city under its sanitisation programme.

This move comes after continuous demands from the denizens to cover the by-lanes under the sanitisation drive, which began from March 24.

“During this period, the corporation has received huge demand from the public for sanitising their areas,” a GMC notification stated on Monday.

“GMC will try to meet up the request and cover the maximum possible areas within our jurisdiction,” it added.

GMC sources informed that even though they did not have any plans earlier to cover the bylanes due to dearth in manpower and machinery, however, as requests in large numbers have poured in they have decided to cover the by-lanes as well.

The first phase of sanitisation drive ended on Sunday and the second phase began on Monday.

The GMC has collaborated with the State Fire and Emergency Services for carrying out the sanitisation drive in the city.

In the second phase of the sanitisation drive, the GMC aims to cover maximum areas of the city.
