The principal of Lakhimpur Post Graduate Training College, Rukma Gohain Baruah will be the next Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
The news has been confirmed by Assam education minister Dr Ranoj Pegu.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, minister Pegu said: “Congratulations to Shri Rukma Gohain Baruah (M.A., M.Ed), a worthy son of North Lakhimpur, the principal of Lakhimpur Post Graduate Training College, on being appointed by the Assam government as the chairman of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council.”
“He is the grandson of Asam Sahitya Sabha’s first president a ‘Pitaamah’ of Assamese literature, Padmanath Gohain Baruah,” Dr Pegu wrote.
Gohain Baruah did his schooling from North Lakhimpur Govt Higher Secondary School.
He studied in North Lakhimpur College and completed MA from Dibrugarh University.
According to reports, Gohain Baruah will take take charge as the new chairman of AHSEC on June 2, 2021. He will succeed Dr. Dayananda Borgohain.
Talking to a news channel, Gohain Baruah said, “After taking charge as the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, my top priority will be the final examination of the Higher Secondary Class 12.”
“I will study the whole issue and after discussing the issue with the Assam education minister and other officials of the Council, we will conduct the examination as soon as the Covid situation becomes normal in the state.”
The AHSEC chairman-designate said during his tenure he will stress on the vocational education.
The Higher Secondary Class 12 final Examination 2021 has been postponed in Assam due to the Covid19 situation in the state.
