Rima Das’s critically acclaimed Assamese feature film Bulbul Can Sing is all set to hit the screens across Assam on Friday (September 20).

“We are coming to a theatre near you in Assam on September 20 and from September 27 all over India PVR Vakao release! Need your love and blessings,” Rima said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Bulbul Can Sing won the Rajat Kamal for the Best Assamese Film at the 66th National Film Awards.

Based against a rural backdrop, Bulbul Can Sing is a visceral coming-of-age drama about a teenage girl, Bulbul, living in a village in Assam, fighting her way through love and loss as she figures out who she really is.

The cast of the film includes Arnali Das, Bonita Thakuriya, Manoranjoan Das, Manabendra Das and Pakija Begam.

The film has so far been screened in 40 film festivals including Toronto International Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival across the globe and has bagged 13 awards.

It also won the Best Indie Film at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) in Victoria, Australia.

Rima shot to global fame when her film Village Rockstars which was an Assamese language film won the National Award for Best Feature Film in 2018.

It was even India’s official entry from the country to the Oscars.
