Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday was stranded at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport for hours after anti CAB protesters hit Guwahati streets in large numbers.

The CM landed in Guwahati from Tezpur and was forced to wait at the VIP lounge of the airport after massive anti CAB protests in the city restricted the movement of his convoy.

On Wednesday, it was observed that employees of the Assam Secretariat also joined the anti CAB protests and raised slogans against the government.

Millions of people across the northeast have stage protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill or CAB, 2019.

The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) called an 11-hour Northeast bandh on Tuesday, which evoked a total response in the region.

CAB was passed in the Lok Sabha on Monday and has been tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

The Bill is likely to be passed on Wednesday and if it does then the situation in the region, especially Assam, will deteriorate further.

Meanwhile, the Centre has withdrawn security cover from Jammu and Kashmir and are being brought to Assam for controlling the situation.
