A pregnant lady on Sunday was carried on a horsecart in Majuli, the home constituency of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, depicting a sorry tale of development.
Identified as Madhusmita Mili Pegu, the lady is a resident of Bhekeli Chapori of the district was carried on horsecart for 8 kilometres and then on a boat to reach a bigger hospital.

“Neither we have proper roads or healthcare facilities in here, even though Majuli is the assembly constituency of Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal,” said a local resident seeking anonymity.
“In 2017 the CM announced 642 developmental schemes for the district but we don’t see anything substantial in practical,” he further added.
At a time when the government has been playing the drum of all-round development across the state, absence of proper roads in CM’s own constituency upholds completely a different picture.
