Sonitpur police have decided to instal CCTV cameras in Tezpur town, the headquarters of the district.

Informing this, Sonitpur superintendent of police Kumar Sanjeet Krishna said, “A number of CCTV cameras will be installed in entire Tezpur town to monitor various activities in the town.”

This is for the first time that CCTV cameras would be installed in Tezpur town.

The decision to install CCTV cameras in the town has been taken immediately after the incident of grenade blast in Guwahati on Wednesday evening in which 8 people were injured.

Following the incident of blast that took place in front of a shopping mall, Guwahati Central, the Sonitpur police had a series of meetings with the Tezpur Chamber of Commerce, owners of a number shopping malls and private security agencies.

Tezpur town is situated along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border near the international border with China.

Saying that security remains always tight in Tezpur town Sonitpur police chief Krishna said, “Several points have been selected where the proposed CCTV cameras will be installed in Tezpur town.”

Krishna also said Sonitpur police have already strengthened security in every bordering area and arrangement has been made for regular checking in every point.

Meanwhile, following the Guwahati blast, deputy inspector general of police (northern region) Lachit Baruah has taken stock of the situation in four districts – Sonitpur, Biswanath, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji.

It may be mentioned that Sonitpur and Biswanath districts witnessed the massacre of the anti-talk faction of National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB-S) where several people were killed in the bordering area in 2014.
