The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro) on Tuesday remanded Kumud Goswami-one of the prime accused in the SI (Unarmed Branch) recruitment scam- in three-day custody of the Guwahati police crime branch.
Goswami surrendered before the police on Monday after evading arrest for several days.
Apart from Goswami, the four other arrested accused were sent to judicial custody.
They are- Jugami Brahma, Pranab Bora, Sanib Sarma and Pranjal Sarma.
It may be mentioned here that on Monday night Nalbari police arrested one Gunjan Das from Chhaygaon area of Kamrup district for his alleged involvement in the scam.
The biggest failure, however, on the part of Assam Police has been its failure to arrest former DIG PK Dutta and BJP leader Diban Deka- the two prime accused in the case.
Assam police continue to remain clueless on their whereabouts despite the investigators making a number of arrests.
Sources informed that the police have already traced the chain through which the question paper got circulated through WhatsApp.
According to police sources, the question paper originated from PK Dutta’s cell phone.
The baffling part is that as to how could Dutta and Deka lay hands on the question papers when the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB) used to get question papers printed outside Assam to avoid discrepancy.
