High voters’ turnout has been recorded during the first phase of Bodo Territorial Council polls.

People in large exercised their franchise during the first phase of polls to the Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) on Monday.

While, in Udalguri, a high voters’ turnout of 75% has been recorded, Baksa registered 78% voters’ turnout.

The district of Udalguri comprises of 10 Bodo Territorial Council constituencies – Mwdwibari, Khalingduar, Nonwi Serfang, Bhergaon, Khwirwbari, Harisinga, Dwhnshri, Bhairabkunda, Pasni Serfang and Rowta.

The voters mainly consisted of young and first time voters.

Long queues of voters were witnessed throughout the day in all the polling stations.

People thronged the polling stations since early in the morning to cast the votes.

Polling in the first phase of the Bodo Territorial Council passed off peacefully, with no untoward incident reported.

“We have recorded 75 per cent polling in Udalguri. In Baksa district, which comprises of 5 BTC constituencies, the voter turnout was recorded at 78%,” said an election official.

It may be mentioned here that in 2015, the voter turnout in the four BTC districts was recorded at 65%.
