Ahom King Swargadeo Siba Singha’s spiritual guru Krishnaram Bhattacharjya (Nyayavagish) or Parbatiya Gosain’s descendants are now facing the humiliation to prove their identity as Indian citizens in Assam. Thanks to the final draft of NRC.

The NRC is supposed to separate illegal migrants from the genuine Indians. But unfortunately the name of one of the members of eleventh generation of Parbatiya Gosain or Krishnaram Bhattacharjya did not figure in the final draft NRC.

“It is humiliating. It is a factor. Harassment is separate thing. I know this (NRC) is a herculean task meant for the benefit of all if done accurately. Whatever steps we should take as citizens, we are ready to take. But when suddenly you are told that your name is not included in the final draft, it is not a case of harassment but humiliation,” Pinaki Bhattacharjee one of the members of the eleventh generation of Parbatiya Gosain said.

Krishnaram Bhattacharjya (Nyayavagish) or Parbatiya Gosain was a Shakta priest brought from Nabadwip in West Bengal by Ahom king Swargadeo Rudra Singha’s son  Siba Singha who assumed the Ahom name Sutanphaa after ascending the throne.

Siba Singha gave the management of Kamakhya temple to Krishnaram Bhattacharjya. Since Krisnaram’s residence was on the top of Nilachal hill top, he was also known as Parbatiya Gosain.  Parbatiya  Gosain was the royal priest of Ahom dynasty.

Talking to Northeast Now, at his office chamber at BK Kakati road in Ulubari, Architect Pinaki Bhattacharjee said, “I have submitted whatever valid and admissible documents I possess. I have submitted land document and passport. We are among the most original people of Assam. Some discrepancies are there in the process of updating the NRC. They should have called us for clarification.”

According to Pinaki Bhattacharjee, the NRC authorities did not communicate with him for any clarification relating to documents he submitted before the release of the final draft.

Pinaki was heartbroken after not finding his family members names in the final draft NRC. “It is quite obvious that since my name is missing from the list my son’s name will not be there but my wife’s name is also missing. Her father’s name is there but her name is omitted from the draft list,” he said.
