Surprises regarding the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) are cropping up with every single passing day.

Now former Chief Minister of Assam, Anwara Taimur, is finding her name missing from the final draft of the NRC, according to reliable sources.

Taimur, who was born on November 24, 1936 was the first woman Chief Minister of the State.

At a time when several parties and organizations were crying foul that several genuine Indian citizens have not found their names in the final draft of the NRC which was published on July 30 last, the fact that the name of a former Chief Minister is missing from the final draft NRC is quite surprising and assumes much significance.

Notaby, the former Chief Minsiter’s Guwahati residence near the Rajdhani Masjid in Dispur area is lying vacant as ailing Taimur is presently in Australia with her son.

Taimur was the Chief Minister of Assam from December 6, 1980 to June 30, 1981.

She was also a minister in the State Cabinet from 1983 to 1985 and was looking after the PWD.

She again became the Agriculture Minister in 1991.

Notably, Taimur was also an active Congress worker at the national level.

She was elected as member of the Legislative Assembly in 1972, 1978, 1983 and 1991.

Taimur was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1988.

Taimur expressed her sadness over the fact that her name did not figure in the final draft of the NRC during an interview to a 4tv news television channel.
