ONGC engineer Rajib Kumar Hazarika died due to Covid-19 at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh around 9.20 am on Sunday.

He was 52 years old.

Hazarika was undergoing treatment at AMCH after testing positive for Covid-19. He was a diabetic and suffered from other complications.

He was working at Assam’s Nazira office of the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC).

Earlier, he served ONGC in Mumbai.

“He had been undergoing treatment at AMCH for the past several days. He was diabetic and had many other complications. We were giving him the best treatment possible, but he passed away today at around 9.20 am,” said a doctor at AMCH.

Born at Chatia in Biswanath district (earlier Sonitpur district), Hazarika did his schooling at Chatia HS School and passed the HSSLC Examination from Cotton College (now Cotton University). He had completed his engineering at the Jorhat Engineering College in 1991.

He has left behind his wife, son, daughter, wife, brothers and sisters.

He was also associated with social organisations.

Hazarika was a former joint general secretary of the Assam Association Mumbai.

The Assam Association Mumbai has expressed its condolence at its former office-bearer.

“The demise of Hazarika is an irreparable loss to the Assamese people of Mumbai, Assam Association Mumbai and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation,” the Association stated.

“Condolences to all the family members along with wife Babli (Mridushmita Hazarika), son Maina, daughter Maini on her demise and wishing eternal peace for the departed soul,” the executive committee of Assam Association, Mumbai said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

A total of 876 people have tested positive in Assam during the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 2,23,816.

The disease has claimed two more lives, while the number of active cases in Assam stands at 4,794 at present.

A total of 30 positive patients are undergoing treatment in the AMCH.

While 17 of these patients are undergoing treatment in the Covid isolation ward, 13 are admitted at the Covid intensive care unit.

One of the patients is in ventilatory support and 10 others on oxygen support.

On Saturday, Advocate Neyim Ahmed of Tinsukia passed away of Covid-19 at AMCH.
