Jorhat police on Monday arrested six youths, including four students of Assam’s Jorhat Engineering College, over a clash in which two persons were injured.
The arrests came in wake of two parties lodging complaints with the police alleging that they had been attacked by the other side on Sunday.
A police source said that two FIRs – one by about 30 youths of Garmur near the Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) and the other by a group of hostel students of the college – were lodged at Garmur police outpost under Jorhat Police Station.
In the FIRs, both the groups alleged that they were physically assaulted by the other group.
The boys from both the sides were later released on bail.
The skirmish allegedly erupted when a group of boys from an adjacent village reportedly started to play cricket inside the JEC campus.
The source said that quarrel started after JEC students opposed playing of cricket inside the college campus and thereafter both sides attacked each other in which two persons reportedly were injured.
Two cases – 42/2019 and 44/2019 – have been registered in the Jorhat Police Station on the basis of the FIRs lodged by both the sides.
The source said investigation was on.
