A new regional political party christened as ‘Asom Jana Morcha’ (AJM) has emerged in the State on Sunday with an aim to fight against both communal and family politics, and promote regional politics in Assam.

The formation of the new party – Asom Jana Morcha (AJM) – was announced during a press conference at the Dispur Press Club in the city. The party has been formed with advocate Saiful Islam Choudhury as the president, advocate Hariqul Islam Bhuyan as vice-president and RTI activist Dulal Bora as general secretary.

Announcing the formation of the new political party, the AJM leadership came down heavily on the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a regional party, which is a partner in the State’s coalition Government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

Bringing allegations against the BJP and AIUDF, AJM vice-president Hariqul Islam Bhuyan said, “Both BJP and AIUDF have been doing communal politics. They have divided the State on the basis of religion.”

Talking to Northeast Now, Bhuyan lashing out at the AGP, said, “The AGP has been sold at the hands of BJP only to gain power. They have lost all credibility as a regional political party. We will have to scrutinise all aspects if there would be any possibility of forming alliance with the AGP in future.”

Lambasting the Congress for its family politics, Bhuyan said, “The Congress has been doing family politics across the country. But we won’t let them to go forward anymore. We are here to protect the interests of the indigenous people of the State.”

Responding to a question on Ram Sena Asom’s move to build Ram temple in four minority areas of the State, Bhuyan said, “They can go ahead with it only if the public gives them consent in this regard. Nobody should get hurt.”

Responding to a question about why people would vote for them if they contest in polls while there are political parties like the BJP, the Congress and other political parties, Bhuyan said, “There is need of strong regional political parties to face off the political parties who are involved in communal politics.”

“We will try to prevent the BJP’s Hindutva politics and AIUDF’s Islamic politics in Assam,” he added.

Further, president Choudhury demanded the BJP-led Central Government to implement the Assam Accord to identify and deport illegal migrants from Assam.

Choudhury added, “Peace, Justice and Unity – is the motto of our party.”
