Numaligarh Refinary Limited (NRL) on Wednesday officially handed over waste handling equipment to the Dibrugarh district administration in Upper Assam.

NRL, through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, distributed 30 numbers of PVC dustbins, 15 Tata Ace Hopper Tipper and one Bolero Vehicle mounted drain cleaning machine to Dibrugarh district administration at Dibrugarh deputy commissioner’s conference hall.

Deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, DMB chairperson Soma Chakraborty, Santanu Gogoi and Tirtha Hazarika from NRL were present at the distribution programme.

The cost of the whole project is Rs 76 lakh.

Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Jha said, “This is not the operational area of NRL but still they have distributed us waste handling equipment through their CSR programme. We thank NRL for coming forward in keeping Dibrugarh town clean.”

Jha appealed to the residents of Dibrugarh to keep the town clean.

“Very soon, we will organise awareness programme in every ward of Dibrugarh town to create awareness how to keep their areas and environment clean,” Jha added.

However, the Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) has failed to generate the message of cleanliness.

It has been seen that garbage are littered in the roadside due to mismanagement of DMB officials.

“We need community participation to keep Dibrugarh clean. We appeal to all section of people of the society to come forward and join hands to keep Dibrugarh clean,” said deputy commissioner Jha.

“It has been seen that some people throw garbage in drains and in roadsides which create problem for the pedestrians. This should be stopped. The DMB should fine the persons who dump garbage in drain and roadside,” said Ankit Modi, a resident of Dibrugarh.
