The Union home ministry has said that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be notified in Assam only after implementation of an appropriate security regime on lines similar to the security regime provided for AADHAR data.
“The Supreme Court has directed the state coordinator to enact an appropriate security regime on lines similar to the security regime provided for AADHAR data and only thereafter the list of inclusions and exclusions shall be made available to the state government, central government and
registrar general of India (RGI),” said minister of state for home Nityanand Rai in a written reply to Congress MP Abdul Khaleque.

In his question, Khaleque had asked the home ministry whether the RGI, office of the registrar general and census commissioner has notified the final NRC, Assam that was published on 31 August 2019.
Rai said that several communications and instructions have been sent to the state coordinator of (NRC), Assam for complying with the orders of the Supreme Court with regard to disposal of claims and objections, publication of lists of inclusions and exclusions in NRC, etc.
“Letters were also issued for completing pending works as per the approved standard operating procedures and complying with the directions issued by the Supreme Court within the deadlines fixed,” Rai said.
