Assam Nagarik Mancha claims that the final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) published on August 31 last was intentionally prepared by the state coordinator Prateek Hajela to satisfy All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU), Assam Jatiyatawadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS), Assam Public  Works (APW).

“As if they are not satisfied they may trigger massive  agitation statewide resulting into chaotic situation  and as such knowingly 19,06,657 genuine Indian Citizens were excluded from final NRC,” it stated.

Addressing a press conference, ANM general secretary Bijoy Chakraborty on Tuesday said preparation of NRC in 2015 began targeting Bengali Hindus.

He lambasted the AASU and all other organisations.

He stated after the publication final NRC it is completely clear that ASSU’s six years long agitation which began in the year 1979 with moto to chase 60 lakhs Bengali foreigners was completely baseless.

The students’ body totally misguided and played with the emotions of the people of Assam who supported them in their six years long demonstration.

Chakraborty questioned why along with all the organisations simultaneously Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) also is unsatisfied with outcome of final NRC.

He said as BJP while campaigning for Legislative Assembly elections in the State in 2016 promised to detect and deport one crore Bangladeshi Muslim foreigners from Assam with the help of NRC.

“But now the scenario is totally different after publication of final NRC. Only 5,00,000 Muslims have been dropped out,” said the organization.

Chakrabotry gave examples of former MLA from Katigorah in Cachar district Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiya, his son, daughter, some family members of former President of India Fakiruddin Ali Ahmed, many freedom fighters, army personnel who are left out of NRC but they are indigenous people of Assam and genuine Indian citizens.

ANM claimed this NRC is completely defective, default and needs to be modified.

ANM urged the government that those people excluded from NRC but their names appeared in 2014  electoral rolls must be immediately included in NRC without condition to honour the Constitution of India.

ANM further demanded to form a parliamentary committee and an opposition leader to be appointed as one of its chairmen to conduct an inquiry on Rs 1600 crore spent on the preparation of an unacceptable, defective NRC.

It also demanded to investigate why and for whom genuine Indian citizens are being dropped out of final NRC.
