The Trinamool Congress delegation after returning to Kolkata on Friday from Silchar lodged two FIRs against Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Two TMC MPs—Mamatabala Thakur and Kakoli Ghosh Dostidar—have filed an FIR at Airport police station in Kolkata alleging that they were harassed and illegally detained by police at Silchar airport, media reports say.
Trinamool Congress MLA Mahua Moitra, who was also a member of the delegation, filed a separate complaint against Chief Minister Sonowal at Alipore police station.
TMC claimed its members were ‘roughed up’ and ‘heckled’. “They restrained us without any reason and wouldn’t let us move. They manhandled us,” Mahua Moitra told reporters in Kolkata.
Police, on the other hand, alleged two female constables were assaulted the Airport by Mahua Moitra.
The TMC delegation arrived at Silchar on Thursday to participate in a convention against the recently-released final NRC draft but they were stopped and detained by police at the airport.
After overnight detention at Silchar airport, they returned to Kolkata on Friday morning.
Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia had said the TMC leaders were stopped from entering Silchar as authorities feared their arrival would “create differences among the people.”
West Bengal Urban Development & Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim has vowed to come back to Assam within a week.
