Assam’s Kaliabor Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi and other Congress leaders of the Northeast congratulated Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who has been selected as the party’s leader in the 17th Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

The senior Congress leader of West Bengal was selected for the post after a meeting of many leading politicians of the Congress was held which was also attended by party president Rahul Gandhi.

Gaurav Gogoi stated on his official Twitter handle:

‘Spoke to @adhirrcinc today and offered my congratulations and best wishes in his new role. I’m confident that the Congress will present the issues affecting the Indian people in a strong and affirmative manner in the Lok Sabha.’

Born on April 2, 1956, Chowdhury served as the Union Minister of State for Railways from October 28, 2012 to May 16, 2014.

The former president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress won the Behrampore seat by a huge number of votes in the 1999 Indian general elections.

Former minister of labour and employment Mallikarjun Kharge was the leader of the Congress in the 16th Lok Sabha.
