The Ministry of Ayush has initiated several schemes for the betterment of the northeast in the ayurvedic sector even as 6, 34, 293 patients in this land locked region have been benefited under various schemes of Ayush.

Government statistics said that more than 9,600 numbers of accessioned herbarium sheets were collected and more than 1,000 numbers of folk-claims were documented under Medico-Ethno Botanical Survey programme in the region.

“Northeast has a vast resources of ayurvedic medicines and we have started taking several steps to preserve those medicinal plants,” a senior official in the Ministry of Ayush told Northeast Now.

Under centrally sponsored scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM), provision has been made for financial assistance for mobility support to the state and district functionaries for conducting essential monitoring activities. Further, various review meeting are conducted to states and UTs including northeastern states by the Ministry of AYUSH for monitoring of the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Scheme of NAM.

The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) has reported that a total of 1,42,041 patients under the Tribal Health Care Research Program (THCRP), 2,11,327 numbers of patients under Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Programme, 2,80,925 numbers of patients under Swasthya Rakshan Programme have been benefited in the northeastern states.

The Ministry of AYUSH has implemented its programmes both through central sector schemes and centrally sponsored scheme in the northeastern states. The National AYUSH Mission (NAM) has been implemented for providing financial assistance to the state and UTs including NE states for development and promotion of AYUSH systems of medicine.

The government has also initiated education programmes through its autonomous organizations including North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong and North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM), Pasighat.
