A day after joining the Trinamool Congress, former Silchar MP and ex-president of All India Mahila Congress Sushmita Dev said she joined the Mamata Banerjee-led party without any pre-condition.
While addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Sushmita Dev, who was a prominent Congress leader from Assam’s Barak Valley, said, “I have joined the All India Trinamool Congress without any pre-condition.”

Dev, who is the daughter of Congress leader and former Union minister Santosh Mohan Dev, said she has faith in Mamata Banerjee and lauded her leadership quality.
She said she had a long association with the Congress and the party gave her a lot of opportunities.
But she made it clear that in her 30 years in politics, she never demanded anything from the Congress high command.

Dev said she will take any responsibility given to her by TMC president and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Talking to the reporters, Dev, who resigned from the primary membership of Congress on August 15, said she has not compromised her ideology in joining the TMC.

Dev joined the TMC in the presence of senior party leaders Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O’Brien in Kolkata on Monday.
She also said on Tuesday: “It is wrong to compare Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee”.
Several Congress leaders, including Kapil Sibal, were shocked at Sushmita Dev’s resignation and blamed the party leadership.
“Sushmita Dev Resigns from primary membership of our Party While young leaders leave we ‘oldies’ are blamed for our efforts to strengthen it The Party moves on with : Eyes Wide Shut,” Kapil Sibal wrote in a tweet.
Manish Tiwari tweeted: “If this is true it is most unfortunate. Why @sushmitadevinc? Your erstwhile colleagues & friends especially the person who was National President of @nsui when you contested your first @DUSUofficial elections back in 1991 deserve a better explanation than this laconic letter?”
