IIT Guwahati has been ranked 7th in Engineering and Overall category in NIRF India Rankings 2020, released on Thursday.
Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced the top 3 ranks for 9 different categories along with the overall rankings in an eRelease of NIRF Rankings 2020.
Nishank released the India Rankings 2020 virtually in 10 categories in the presence of Union Minister of State for HRD, Sanjay Dhotre.
This year, apart from the previous categories, the Dental category has been added.
IIT Madras has retained the 1st position in the Overall ranking as well as in engineering while the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru tops the University list.
IIM Ahmedabad has topped in the Management category and AIIMS occupies the top slot in the Medical category for the third consecutive year.
Miranda College has retained the 1st position amongst colleges for the third consecutive year.
Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Delhi tops in the Dental category.
In the Overall category, IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore, and IIT Delhi have been placed at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
In the engineering category, the top 3 institutes of IIT Madras, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay have retained their positions.
Pokhriyal said the HRD Ministry has taken the initiative of creating a National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which is being used for past five years for ranking of institutions of higher education in different categories and domains of knowledge.
This is the fifth consecutive edition of India Rankings of the institutions of higher education in India.
The HRD Minister said this exercise has created a habit of organizing the data by the institutions and most of all these institutions attempt themselves to become more competitive.
