The general manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Sanjive Roy along with senior officials interacted with members of Parliament whose constituencies are served by Tinsukia Division.

The meeting was held at the NFR divisional headquarters in Tinsukia on Tuesday.

This was stated in a press release from the chief public relations officer, Subhanan Chanda.

The meeting was attended by Lok Sabha MPs Topon Kumar Gogoi, Pradan Baruah, Tapir Gao from Arunachal Pradesh, Minister of State (FPI) Rameswar Teli and Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa.

During the meet, the general manager highlighted the overall development of NFR.

Divisional railway manager Ashish Sharma gave a brief description of various activities of Tinsukia division.

NFR in its continuous task to provide better service to the railway users, the General Manager said that 456 coaches of total 14 trains under NFR have been provided with new LHB coaches replacing previous old coaches.

The NFR has further provided local train facility to the users and all the prominent towns of upper Assam such as Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Digboi, Jorhat, Sivsagar, Titabor etc are well connected to each other.

Elaborating various activities undertaken by the division, senior officials said that the Railway was trying to upgrade the Jorhat Station with its best efforts.

All the level crossing gates have been manned and elimination of manned level crossing by road under bridge will be taken up for as per site feasibility.

Both Simaluguri and Sivsagar stations fall under category NSG-5 & 6 respectively and have been beautified with mural painting focusing on local themes and cultural importance, the NFR officials said.

Eigthteen pairs of mail/express trains including one pair of Rajdhani Express linking major cities like Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Patna, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Luucknow, Trivandrum etc have stoppage at Simaluguri, it added.

The updated Preliminary Engineering cum Traffic survey (PET) has been completed for the train line connecting Dangri to Dhola.

NFR has completed field survey for the new railway line from Pasighat to Rupai via Roing, Tezu, Parsuram Kund, Chowkham and Namsai.

Survey from Margherita to Deomali has also been completed and report submitted to Railway Board.

The MPs also gave various suggestions like up gradation of stations, increase in frequency of Rajdhani Express and stoppages of some long distance trains at different stations.

They also laid stress on doubling of railway line from Guwahati to New Tinsukia and improving other passenger amenities which the general manager noted and assured to implement the suggestions wherever feasible.
