Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced additional stoppages for several passenger trains at selected stations across Assam and West Bengal in 2025, aiming to improve accessibility and convenience for commuters.
In Assam, 32 new halts have been added to 23 trains, including prominent services such as the Brahmaputra Mail, Kamrup Express, North East Express, Kanchanjunga Express, and Avadh Assam Express.
Key stations benefiting from the additional stops include Diphu, Goalpara Town, Kokrajhar, and New Haflong.
In West Bengal, 10 new stoppages have been provided to eight trains, including Kanchan Kanya Express, with halts at stations such as Kumedpur, Old Malda, and Kanki. These changes are expected to strengthen rail connectivity across North Bengal.
The additional halts aim to make long-distance trains more accessible to passengers from smaller towns and semi-urban areas, reducing dependence on major junctions.
NFR said the initiative benefits daily commuters, students, working professionals, traders, and patients by providing easier access to education, employment, business, and medical facilities.
Officials also noted that the move is likely to boost local economic activity and tourism while easing congestion at major stations, resulting in smoother passenger movement and improved operational efficiency.
NFR reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing passenger services and promoting regional connectivity by introducing stops based on public demand.
