A new committee of the Delhi chapter of the Asom Sattra Mahasabha has been formed with Air Commodore (retired) Jugal Bhuyan as the president.

Major General Ananta Bhuyan has been appointed as the vice president while Abhijeet Mahanta has been given the charge of the secretary and Angshuman Baruah as the treasurer.

The decision was taken in the recently organized general meeting of ‘Asom Sattra Mahasabha Delhi’ (ASMD).

In the new committee of ASMD, Uttara Das, Rim Pathak, Debasish Mahanta, Pragati Bhuyan, Nazmush Saadat, Rekha Lahon, Nishit Rajkhowa, Rakesh Gogoi, Yashmeen Barua, Dibakar Das and Bandita Misra have been nominated as the executive members.

Talking to the office bearers of Mangaldai Media Circle, a local scribe body over phone, vice president of ASMD Major General Ananta Bhuyan presently serving as the additional director general of Rashtriya Rifles in Delhi apprised about this development.

Asom Sattra Mahasabha Delhi (ASMD) – the Delhi chapter of ‘Asom Sattra Mahasabha’ was established in 2014 and since its inception, ASMD has been organizing several cultural events in the National Capital Region (NCR) to spread the awareness of ‘Sattriya’ culture and the rich classical heritage of Assam at the national level.

“ASMD organizes annual naam (Sattriya form of Vaishnavite prayers) during the month of April, offers naam service to the individual households or groups ofAssamese people living in NCR (during the month of Bhado, mid August to mid September) and celebrates Annual Sattriya Sanskriti Divas,” he added.

The ASMD has also taken up publication of books related to Vaishnavite teachings of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva and Mahapurush Madhavdeva for better appreciation of their teachings, by the Assamese as well as non-Assamese population of other parts of the nation.

To serve the purpose this purpose, ASMD has made several publications in Hindi and English.

The ASMD has developed and maintained a website as www.asomsattramahasabha.org providing all relevant information about Sattriya Sanskriti and Sattras of Assam.

A complete section is given in Hindi so that the information reaches to the larger section of the society while regular information and updated are provided in Twitter and Facebook accounts.

The ASMD also provides ample opportunities and scope to the aspiring as well as renowned artists of Sattriya Sanskriti to perform at national and international platforms.

On August 15 of 2017, the ASMD took up the praiseworthy initiative to open up the Sattriya Sanskriti Kendra at Gurgaon to impart training on Sattriya Nrittya and Khol Badon (playing of the main percussion instrument in Sattriya).

ASMD has also launched a musical app in both Android & IOS platforms named ‘Mukti’ containing spiritual songs for better appreciation by the younger generation.

In another praiseworthy initiative, the ASMD has also been providing all logistic supports to the patients and attendants visiting New Delhi from Assam like pre-appointment with doctors, so that patients need not wait for long.

Assistance with accommodation and even financial support to needy persons is given from time to time.
