The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) on Friday held protest demonstration against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the capitals of the six Northeastern states.
Various units of the NESO staged protests at Shillong, Itanagar, Agartala, Imphal, Aizawl and Kohima in accordance with the resolution adopted in its meeting in Guwahati on November 14.
Hundreds of students under the banner of Khasi Students’ Union and Garo Students’ Union staged protests against the bill at Shillong.
KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar, general secretary Donald V Thabah and Garo Students Union president Tengsak G Momin welcomed Meghalaya government’s decision on the bill and demanded the centre to scrap the bill.
In Agartala, the protest was led by Twipra Students’ Federation adviser Upendra Debbarma, Biswajit Koloi and Sunil Debbarma. Altogether seven students’ organizations including TFY, IYFT, TNSF, TDSSM, TSB, YTA and ATSU joined the rally held near Don Bosco School at Agartala.
Hundreds of students took out a bike rally in Arunachal’s capital Itanagar protesting against the Bill. Protest rallies were also held in Aizawl, Imphal and Kohima.
