Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS) Guwahati observed National Science Day 2021 on Sunday.
The National Science Day (NSD) is conducted on February 28 to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir Chandra Sekhara Venkata Raman.
He went on to receive Nobel Prize for the discovery of the Raman Effect in 1930.
The day is celebrated to mark the importance of contributions made by scientists towards the development of our nation and the world as a whole.
Through National Science Day, awareness is created on the role of science in society.
The theme for National Science Day 2021 was ‘Future of STI: Impact on Education Skills and Work’.
The celebration was started with the lighting of a lamp by Shrimanta Shankar Academy, Guwahati president Ratul Das.
The joint drug controller of Assam, HN Mahanta, who attended the event as the chief guest, spoke on the theme and encouraged the students to be innovative.
Retired professor of Cotton University, Prof Panna Lal Goswami was the guest of honour in the programme.
He had an interaction with the students and encouraged them.
On the same day, the annual magazine of the institute, ‘Pharmazone’ was released.
Assistant professor of GIPS Guwahati Dr. Smriti Rekha Chanda Das delivered a vote of thanks.
