Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Monday alleged that alike Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been playing the role of a dictator in the country.

APCC general secretary Kishor Bhattacharyya questioned the motive of the BJP-led State Government behind giving direction to the principals of Government and provincialised colleges of the State to depute 30 students to watch the screening of the movie titled ‘Chalo Jeete Hain’ at Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium on Monday.

The movie ‘Chalo Jeete Hain’, made on the life and works of Prime Minister Modi, has been directed by Mangesh Hadawale.

Displaying an order copy, issued by the Director of Higher Education, Assam to the principals of Government and provincialised colleges of the State, Bhattacharyya questioned, “What are Narendra Modi and his Government trying to depict by forcefully involving the students to watch the movie?”

The letter, addressed to the college principals, stated: “As such as instructed by the Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam Higher Education Department, you are hereby directed to depute 30 students along with the teachers to witness the movie. Be it noted that the students and the teachers must reach the Kalakshetra Auditorium well before 5 pm.”

APCC leader Bhattacharyya also said, “A movie made on the life and works of a Prime Minister during his tenure is an unprecedented incident. On the other hand, the State Government issues letter to the principals of Government and provincialised colleges to depute at least 30 students at the screening of the movie which is quite funny.”

Bhattacharyya said that the Congress was unable to understand how the students would be benefitted from the movie as mentioned in the letter.

The APCC general secretary also questioned, “What is the motive of the BJP behind screening of a movie on a Prime Minister who could not maintain his relation with his wife, but only delivers lecture instead of doing work and gave only false promises before elections? Is the BJP trying to teach the students how to lie or do fake promises or attract the students towards Hindutva ideology?”

“The Congress party would be happy if a movie on Mahatma Gandhi or Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel or former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was screened and Government made it compulsory for the students to watch,” Bhattacharyya said.

Meanwhile, addressing the media, APCC general secretary Durga Das Boro came down heavily on the BJP over the National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue. Boro said, “The BJP is playing a role of double standard. While on the one hand the BJP is saying that Assam Accord is the soul of NRC, on the other hand, it wants to grant Indian citizenship to illegal immigrants (Hindu Bangladeshis) by implementing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.”
