Truck owners and drivers organisations in Mizoram, protesting against the poor condition of the national highway 306, began an indefinite strike on Thursday.

The NH-306 (earlier known as NH-54) connects Kawnpui in Mizoram to the Silchar in Assam.

The indefinite strike began on Thursday morning at 7 am in which members of the Mizoram Truck Ownersโ€™ Association (MTOA) and the Mizoram Truck Driversโ€™ Association (MTDA) took an active part and blocked the highway.

They pointed out that the dilapidated condition of the road has led to a number of accidents on the highway.

โ€œThe stretch between Kawnpui and Buichali in Mizoram is extremely poor,โ€ they added.

They further informed said due to this pathetic condition of the road, a number of trucks have turned turtle leading to the death and injury to a number of drivers.

โ€œThe dilapidated condition of the highway has put the lives of the truck drivers in danger,โ€ they added.

They have demanded the immediate repair of the road and said until it is repaired, the blockade will continue.
