Mizoram Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuango on Sunday said the state government is ready to withdraw FIR being filed against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma if there is no any legal validity.
He said that even Chief Minister Zoramthanga did not approve the inclusion of Sarma’s name in the FIR.

“In fact, our Chief Minister did not really approve of mentioning the name of Assam Chief Minister in the FIR. He suggested me that we should look into mentioning the name of Sarma in the FIR,” Chuaungo told reporters.
He said that he will discuss the matter with police officials and remove the name of Assam Chief Minister if there is no legal validity to substantiate the allegation against the chief minister.
“I will hold discussion with the concerned police officer, who filed the FIR and if there is no legal fit in that we would like to remove the name of Assam Chief Minister from the FIR,” he said, adding that he was unaware of the development when criminal cases were filed against Sarma.

The Mizoram Chief Secretary however, did not mention whether or not cases filed against other six Assam officials and 200 unidentified police personnel will be withdrawn.
The Mizoram police have booked Sarma, four senior Assam police officers and two officials under different charges, including “attempt to murder”, “criminal conspiracy” and “assault.”
In fact, the FIR was registered at Vairengte police station by the station officer-in-charge Lalchawimawia on July 26 soon after the violent clash that took place following the alleged aggression by Assam police, who allegedly went past the buffer zone and capture the Mizoram police border outpost inside the state’s territory.
At least seven people, including six cops were killed in the fierce gun battle between police forces of the two states that took place on the outskirts of Vairengte town in Kolasib district.
The four senior Assam police officers, who have been named in the FIR are Assam Inspector General of Police (IGP) Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Cachar Devojyoti Mukherjee, Cachar Superintendent of Police Cahndrakant Nimbalkar, and officer in-charge of Dholai Police Station, Sahab Uddin.

Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli and Cachar Divisional Forest Officer Sunnydeo Chaudhary have also been booked under the same charges.
Besides, Mizoram police also registered criminal cases against unidentified 200 personnel of Assam police.
The four senior Assam police officers and two officials have been asked to appear before the investigating officer at Vairengte police station on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Assam police have also summoned Mizoram Rajya Sabha member K. Vanlalvena and six others officials, including Kolasid Deputy Commissioner H. Lalthlangliana and Superintendent of Police (SP) Vanlalfaka Ralte for questioning on Sunday.
