North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) Shillong and Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) Tezpur recently bagged Rs 50 lakh each as commendation awards for maintaining high standards of sanitation and cleanliness.
Union minister of health and family welfare Harsh Vardhan along with minister of state for health and family welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey presented the awards to these two premier healthcare institutions of the northeast during the national felicitation ceremony of Kayakalp Awardees (2018-19) in New Delhi on Friday.
Some of the prestigious healthcare institutions of the country were felicitated at the function held at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
The health ministry had prepared a list of healthcare institutions of the country regarding their work in maintaining cleanliness in their premises and awarded the winners under the Kayakalp Award scheme.
The Kayakalp Award scheme was introduced by the health ministry on May 15, 2015 with an aim to encourage public healthcare facilities to follow high standards of cleanliness besides recognizing and felicitating those that demonstrate high levels of cleanliness, hygiene and infection-control measures.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi which bagged the top spot among the Kayakalp Awardees (2018-19) was honoured with a cash prize of Rs 3 crore at the felicitation function on Friday.
