Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) Tezpur in Assam on Thursday observed the World Mental Health Day.

This year the theme was ‘Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention’.

The observation was held at the premises of the institute.

LGBRIMH has being a standalone institute with a regional mandate for mental health which has been observing the World Mental Health Day every year.

The programme started with the lighting of lamp by Dr Lakshmi Goswami, wherein Dr Krishna Kemprai, joint director of Health Services, Sonitpur district; Dr Dipesh Bhagabati, retired professor of Psychiatry, GMCH, Guwahati; Dr S K Deuri, director, LGBRIMH, Tezpur and Dr Vijay Gogoi, Dr Sonia P Deuri, head and professor of department of Psychiatric Social Work were present.

A documentary on the Institute showing the development phases of the institute from Lunatic Asylum to present Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health with Patient Care, academic and research activities was also screened in the programme.

Besides this Dr Lakshmi Goswami released the newsletter of the year ‘DALANG’ (The Bridge) while Professor Dipesh Bhagabati, launched the new website of the Institute.

In his address, he shared incidents he faced while treating the patients having committing attempts to suicide.

He also emphasized in creating awareness and for taking early treatment of this kind of mental stigma.

Dr Krishna Kemprai, addressing the audience spoke on the importance of the event.

Dr S K Deuri, Director, LGBRIMH in his speech emphasized on spreading the information about availability of different services and other facilities at LGBRIMH to prevent suicide among the people and he also talked about promotion of mental health.

Dr Vijay Gogoi, subsequently gave the vote of thanks.

Along with a number of dignitaries the programme was graced by personalities from varied fields including students.
