A high alert has been sounded in Meghalaya after the publication of the final NRC in Assam on Saturday.
From the final NRC, names of 19,06,657 people have been excluded.
Meghalaya police conducted checking on national highways along the inter-state border especially in districts sharing borders with Assam.
Members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) were also present at checkpoints.
The checking was carried out with an aim to detect illegal infiltrators.
KSU further demanded the implementation of an NRC-like exercise in Meghalaya for detecting foreigners.
