Host Manipur emerged as champions of the 41st National Masters Athletics Championship at the end of the championship at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal.
Manipur secured a total of 777 points while Assam bagged the runner up title with 667 points while Tamil Nadu was adjudged the third position with 405 points on the concluding day of the five day long competition on Friday.
Manipur bagged the team champion title in women’s category with 454 points while Assam stood first in men’s category.
Manipur bagged a total of 174 medals including 84 gold, 48 silver and 42 bronze medals while Assam got a total of 188 medals including 60 gold, 67 silver and 61 bronze.
Tamil Nadu managed to get a total of 107 medals including 34 gold, 44 silver and 29 bronze.
Around 4000 athletes from 27 states and Union Territories will vie for a total of 250 medals in the championship which was started from February 10.
The championship is being organised by the Manipur Master Athletics Association under the aegis of Master Athletics Federation of India.
Education minister Th Radheshyam, who is also the president Manipur Olympic Association, and youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip were among others present during the day’s closing function.
