As Guwahati is all set to host ‘Advantage Assam’ the first global investment summit to be held in Northeast India, police administration has decided to put invisible security cover for the event. The summit will also be regarded as an acid test for the city police. And to pass this test with flying colours, city police is not relying on their ‘khaki’ uniform but on plain clothes.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Now, Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Chandra Nath said, ‘We have made a very elaborate security arrangement. It will be a layered and intensive kind of security. Inside the summit venue, there will be no khaki uniform personnel. We have specially trained about two hundred personnel. They will be in civil dresses with concealed weapon. They will be stationed in specific locations in close co-ordination with the Special Protection Group (SPG), who will be in charge of the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.’

He further said, ‘We are also sanitising the entire area. The meeting venue has been under permanent security cover for the last two months. Quick Response Team (QRT) has been placed in strategic locations. We have deployed security personnel in such a way that they are not very much visible. Security personnel are very polite and at the same time very strict. Till now, we don’t see any cause of concern. We have taken care of each and every aspect of the summit. We hope that everything will pass off smoothly.’

Around two hundred delegates from seventeen countries are expected to attend this gala event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several union ministers will also be in town to attend the meet. This first of its kind event is grabbing eyeballs since it was announced and entire Guwahati has also been given a makeover because of the event.
