Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal held a meeting with Majuli District Sports Association and its affiliated bodies on Monday and asked them to revamp their activities to spot local sports talents.

Sonowal is also the president of the Assam Olympic Association.

“Since Assam government is planning to hold Grammaya Buniyad Olympic Competition at the district level,” Sonowal said.

“The sports bodies need to revamp themselves to organise the event and give a platform to the budding sports talents to showcase their sporting acumen and get noticed at the higher level,” he added.

He also asked the sports bodies to register 175 clubs in Majuli district and use them as the launchpad to groom sports talents.

Sonowal said that the 21st century is an age of competition and therefore, the sports bodies need to imbibe competitive mentality in them to help the sports talents to develop a competitive spirit.
